Ski Bliss

December 18, 2013

Have you ever taken time away from an activity that you enjoy, only to come back to it and be blown away by just how much fun it is?

Vail Back Bowls

If so, you know exactly how I felt following two excellent ski days last weekend.  They were my first two solid days of the season (I’d been up before but only for an hour or two at a time).  On top of that, it was the first time the temperatures have climbed above 20 degrees in the last few weeks, making things a lot more fun.

Plus, it was the first time we’d seen the sun here in what felt like ages.

Sunshine in Vail

It was the kind of bluebird weekend when the sun is so bright that the snow literally sparkled.  And we all know how much I love glittery things…

Sparkly Snow Vail

With the sun on my face and not-too-icy toes, I had a great ski day in Vail on Saturday with friends, and a just as lovely solo day in Beaver Creek on Sunday.

Vail's back bowls opened this weekend for some beautiful skiing.

And what did I ski? Bumps, and lots of them.  This early in the season, the moguls are just starting to get built up on steeper terrain, making for relatively easy and just plain fun bump skiing.

Grouse Mountain Beaver Creek

My legs are still getting used to these shenanigans, and they were burning by the bottom of most runs.  But it hurt so good!

These were the kind of days that remind me just how lucky I am to live where I do.  They also remind me that winter will be over before I know it, so I’d better be up on the hill every chance I get.  Is it Friday yet?
