Dining Al Fresco at the Wolcott Yacht Club

August 21, 2013

On our way home from Steamboat, my parents and I met up with the boyfriend at the Wolcott Yacht Club.  If you’ve ever been through Wolcott, a blip on the map about 10 minutes west of Edwards, you know that there’s not much water to be found, yet alone a yacht in sight.  From the road, the Yacht Club looks like a bit of a dive, but inside it’s actually quite nice and the patio is fabulous.

That night, they also had live music on the patio – a bluegrass band that was pretty darn good, and I don’t always love bluegrass.

We had a great time sitting outside at the Yacht Club and were pleasantly surprised by the food.  The menu was inventive and every dish was delicious.  We started out with homemade Kettle Chips topped with bacon, scallions and bleu cheese and sipped a beer while waiting for our entrees.  I love that they carry good local beer from Bonfire Brewery in Eagle.

My fish tacos were delicious and a little spicy, but I loved the other dishes at our table even more.  The Soft Shell Crab BLT was perfect, but my mom’s Bison Meatloaf stole the show.  We finished off with a fresh apple cobbler that was the perfect sweet ending.  We loved our meal so much that we came back to the Yacht Club not once but twice during my family’s visit.

After a delicious, albeit slow lunch mid-week, we came back with my sister, aunt and brother-in-law in tow for Sunday brunch.  Same beautiful patio, a different band and menu.

As was apparently my habit that week with my family, I neglected to take any photos of the food, which was excellent again.  But I did capture the delicious Bloody Mary with a bacon-salt rim that I started off with.

Cheers to finding a new favorite brunch spot!

Cheers!

The Blue Corn Cakes were one of my favorite dishes (thanks for the taste, Dad!) and I really enjoyed my Spinach Frittata.  A few of my dining companions also enjoyed the Sheepherder’s Skillet, my favorite from previous brunches at the Yacht Club.

While the food and cocktails were wonderful, the best part was sitting in the shade, spending time with my family and listening to music.

If you’re in the Vail Valley, the Wolcott Yacht Club is a little out of the way but well worth a visit, particularly in the summer when you can sit outside.  Call ahead to find out if they’ll have live music and prepare to want to stay on their patio forever!
