Signs of Spring

April 30, 2013

The dreaded “mud season” is here, when the slowly melting snow turns our mountain paradise sloppy, the seasonal crowds leave town and many a local laments the hated shoulder season. I don’t really mind mud season, mostly because as I bet you’ve noticed, I’m pretty good at getting out of town.

This past weekend, I escaped to Denver to catch up with some friends who I hadn’t seen in a while and soak up some sun and 70 degree weather.

The highlight of the weekend was Friday night, when we went to see comedian Jo Koy at Comedy Works. Jo is one of the regular comedians on the show Chelsea Lately and was totally freakin hilarious. If you have the chance to see him near you I highly recommend it – my abs hurt the next morning from laughing.

We spent pretty much the rest of the weekend outside, which was exactly where I wanted to be. Denver is one of those cities that comes alive the second the weather turns nice, and the whole city buzzed with springtime energy. We made sure to partake in some of the activities that are hallmarks of Denver in Springtime, in my opinion…

A day spent lounging and playing in Wash Park.

Lots of time outdoors with our friends’ dogs. Denver is such a dog-friendly city and this weekend made me even more jealous than usual that I don’t have a furry friend of my own.

Ice cream from Bonnie Brae, one of the best scoop shops in Denver.

My double dip “child’s” size of Cookies ‘n’ Cream and Red Raspberry Roll was so delicious that I refused to share a lick.

A run around Sloan’s Lake. A late frost meant the trees and flowers haven’t started to bloom yet, but that didn’t stop the masses from joining me in the park on that sunny morning.

Has spring sprung yet in your neck of the woods? What are your favorite signs that winter is in the rearview?
